What will your sick policy be for the BLC? (i.e. will children be allowed to go to the learning centre if they have a cold?)

If your child becomes ill while at the centre, parents or the emergency person will be contacted. If necessary, the centre will request that the child be picked up. In the event that your child develops a fever of 101°F or higher, vomiting, diarrhea or a communicable health condition (as listed below), you will be asked to remove him/her from the centre until the condition has been cleared up. In the event that your child contracts a communicable health condition (i.e. head lice, pink eye, 5th disease, hand foot and mouth, impetigo, influenza, ring worm, roseola, scabies, scarlet fever and strep throat) the child care centre will have available information compiled by the Regional Community Health Department. Details of each condition and Butterfly Learning Centre's policies regarding attendance during these times, is defined on the fact sheets.

What will your policy be on administering medication? What about non-prescription medication such as Tylenol?

In compliance with the Day Nurseries Act, the centre is able to administer medication prescribed by your child's physician only. All medication must come in its original container, with the prescription label on it, stating your child's name, dosage and date. Parent authorized 'over the counter' medication may be administered to maintain your child's health at our discretion. When your child requires medication, you must sign all forms given, authorizing the staff at BLC to administer the drug. Please give all medication to the supervisor and take home any medication that is no longer required. Additionally, you must acknowledge in writing that the medication has been administered to your child each day. When picking up medication at the end of the day, please ask a staff member to obtain it for you. If all the above administering requirements are not adhered to, our staff will not administer the medication for the safety of all involved.

What will your policy be for parents who are late picking up their children?

The Butterfly Learning Centre will be operational from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. A late fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged after 6:00 p.m. The fee will be charged to the parents account. Parents who are consistently late will be asked to withdraw their child from the centre.

Will you be open on statutory holidays? If not, will parents have to pay for Statutory Holidays? Please provide a list of holidays that the BLC will be closed throughout the year.

The Butterfly Learning Centre will be closed: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, August Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Monday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day. The Centre will be open during the Christmas holidays. The Centre will advise parents at the beginning of each fiscal year of the days the center will be closed if it is different.

Will BLC be allowing no-pay or "Holiday" days?

At this time, BLC is not offering 'no-pay' or holiday days. Being a non-profit, charitable centre, our fees reflect a balance of operating costs to fees, with little room to provide discounts. Your flat monthly fee is calculated to specifically guarantee your child's enrollment without penalty, no matter what the holiday or sick day situation.

Will BLC be open between Christmas and New Years?

Yes.

What are BLC's hours of operation?

Will transportation to the nearest school be provided?

Courtesy transportation has been arranged to Lexington School until June of 2002. In September 2002 we will be on the bus route for Eastbridge Public School instead. If the school is not full, you may request of the principal that your child attend the new Eastbridge Public School. However, out of district attendance of children is strictly the decision of the school principal.

Will BLC be making any type of alternate arrangements when the courtesy bussing switches from Lexington Public School to the new Eastbridge Public School in September 2002?

At this time, BLC has no alternate methods of getting the children that are currently in the Lexington school catchment area to and from their school. However, we suspect there will be a few parents that will be in the same situation, and will certainly work to get those parents together for carpooling etc. which we hope would allow some form of parent co-operation for transporting the students to their respective schools. BLC is not able to provide this service at this time, due to both cost and liability considerations.

What happens to my waiting-list registration fee if I am never accepted into your centre? Why do you have one?

With only 9% of the needed childcare currently being provided in the Region, it is likely we will have long waiting lists when BLC advertises to the public. However, there is no reason that any child would "never" be accepted into the centre. It would simply be a matter of timing. We have a waiting list fee because it is a standard practice with most day cares. It is to underscore that the family is serious about admission to the centre and to deter those that register their children to multiple day cares tying up waiting lists unnecessarily in the community.

Do you offer a multiple-child discount on your fees?

Unfortunately, at this time, we are not able to offer multiple-child discounts. Being a non-profit, charitable centre, our fees reflect a balance of operating costs to fees, with little room to provide discounts. This issue is closely tied to part-time care concerns - we need to have 112 full-time children active in the centre to meet our expenses. We understand the costs to a family for multiple children, but there are currently no subsidies available to BLC for this.
We may address the issue in time as the centre grows from this initial startup phase.

Do the directors and families of BLC receive subsidized rates or privileges?

Directors and their families of BLC follow the same set of rules as everyone else. They are subject to the same rates for care, and are not subsidized in any way, as well as being subject to the same Policies and procedures.

Will BLC be serving a full breakfast or a morning snack for the children?

BLC will be serving a morning snack for the children.
